What makes Brandvlei Cellar unique is that the cellar actually had to be established twice in order to legally produce wine. If the founders had known what lay ahead, they would probably have taken on the mammoth task with much more hesitation. Especially when it is recalled that in 1974, fourteen farms were expropriated and 5000 tons of grapes were lost, due to the establishment of two other cellars in the area. Nevertheless, in the following years, Brandlei Cellar expanded so that on 04 May 2021 a record harvest of 34,889 tons could be processed for the 2021 harvest year. Brandvlei cellar was established with pride, perseverance and zeal by a group of far-sighted producers and is still managed today by descendants with the same pride and zeal.
The wine was aged for 18 months in oak barrels to capture the concentrated aromas of dark berries - and plum flavors.
